Don’t be put off by the evocative title and cover. This book is an incredibly honest look into the isolation and painful challenges of motherhood and feminism--but it’s also just really funny, dark, and weird. I haven’t highlighted this many passages in a book in ages!
I hate the term “life coach,” but, if there’s anyone worthy of that title, it’s Beck. It’s a humorous and enlightening insight on approaching your life’s choices via a creative plunge into Dante’s “The Divine Comedy.”
It’s been around a while now, but I keep coming back to this one. It’s a beautiful, poetic, and kind-hearted dedication to her friend and lover, music, art, youth, and New York City.
At 600+ pages it seemed daunting, but I literally cried when it ended and deeply wished that the story would go on and on. It’s speculative, deeply literary, yet so relatable. A true love letter to librarians and book lovers everywhere.
